Jonatas is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his mother, Adelaide, and with one sister and one brother, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and drought-stricken region. Their simple home, which is rented, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his children. Adelaide receives a small disability pension, which is far from enough to meet basic needs. Jonatas is cheerful, playful and intelligent. He helps his mom by putting his toys away. He likes playing soccer and with toy cars in the company of other kids his age. Jonatas attends a local public primary school and his favorite subject is Science. His wish is to be a police officer when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Jonatas and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
