Dulcy is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her mother and stepfather, Eva and Luiz, and younger sister and brother, Ana and Adryan, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and drought-stricken region. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Luiz works as a watchman for a local firm and his earnings are far from enough to meet even the most basic needs of his family. Dulcy is affectionate, shy and helpful. She helps her mom by washing the dishes and making the beds. She loves playing ball games and with dolls in the company of her sister and friends her age. Dulcy attends a local public elementary school where she is making good progress; she likes physical education. Her wish is to be a schoolteacher when she grows up. The family is needy and through your support Dulcy and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
